Car Show Tips For Appearance and Food Storage

By Vern Stoecker

It is the time of year when everyone that owns a Classic Car is thinking about heading to a Car Show. It is always fun to meet the other car owners and answer questions from attendees about your car. I have a 55 Ford, belong to a car club, and attend shows regularly. Bring the lawn chairs so you can comfortably stay with your vehicle and relax between going to see the other entries. Which brings us to the issue of food at these outings?

How many times have you looked into the interior of one of the cars on show and seen bags of chips, small coolers, sandwich wrappers, etc? C'mon guys, this doesn't present your ride very well. You have spent a ton of money on that interior, and in a lot of cases the trunk, so that the car presents well, only to clutter it up. You usually try to put your other things, cleaning supplies for example, in some kind of storage that is auto or time frame related, why not your food and snacks? I have found that a picnic basket or backpack works great for these events. Everything hidden from view until needed. And look great when inside the car or in the trunk. If you are really serious you can find Picnic Baskets that match the style of the era your car was made. They not only keep things neat and organized but actually look good when showing the car.

You have options here. A traditional style basket usually has a built in cooler and can come with all of the accessories, plates, cups, silverware, etc. Nothing is forgotten at home making your preparation for the trip to the show a lot less stressful. Another option is the Tailgating pack. Some of these include a gas BBQ Grill along with the other amenities and it all stores in one pack. Some companies offer 12 volt coolers so everything stays cold indefinitely. I would avoid any of these due to the drain on the battery. It is never a good thing when you are ready to leave for home and find the battery is dead.

What do you take? Try the following;

* Plenty to drink, especially water, sometimes water is the hardest thing to find.
* Fruit, like grapes, help quench you thirst and are a great non-filling snack.
* Beef Sticks provide a little more substance when you need something more.
* Snacks, I try to avoid real salty chips, etc., try one of the Trail Mix products instead..
* Keep the Luncheon Meat in the cooler and the bread separate. This saves room in the cooler and makes for fresher sandwiches.
* Thermos for coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Or for Iced Tea.
* Paper Towels

It all goes into my basket and backpack. I have both. The basket is great to leave in the car or trunk and is used when we want to sit by the vehicle and enjoy a meal. The backpack is useful for drinks and snacks when walking around looking at the other cars at the show. At one show we attended the temperature was near 100 degrees and all of the drinking fountains had been shut off due to presumed cost to the hosting club. Needless to say drinks were at a premium and I was more than happy that we had cold water with us. It is always a good idea to use frozen water containers in your coolers instead of ice. Food items won't get soaked from the melting ice. I freeze bottles of water and as the ice melts I have ice cold water to drink. In my large coolers I use gallon jugs of frozen water. Believe me, you can never have enough water at times.

Car shows are an enjoyable experience and great places for kids to learn about old cars and bond with the people that own them. Make you experience more enjoyable by getting organized.

You Must Have a Car Cover

Posted: Saturday, January 25, 2014

By Dennis L Ray

As the title says, everybody needs car covers. If you look at the price of cars today you will want to keep the car you have in the best shape you can. To help you do this you should use a car cover because it will not only protect your exterior it will protect your interior as well.

This article also can be interpreted to mean you should cover all your vehicles, your cars, SUV's, trucks, vans, atv's, snowmobiles, watercraft and more. If you plan to have your vehicle for a long time or plan to sell it in the future it is in your best interest it keep it looking like new, that way you will get the most money when you either sell it or trade it in on something new.

The cover will help keep your exterior in top shape by protecting your vehicle from all that mother nature can throw at it, like acid rain, hail storms, wind storms, winter storms including those ice storms that will put your exterior to the test. It will also protect your vehicle from things like sap from the trees you park under, the bird droppings from our feathered friends that contain strong acids that can hurt your clear coat, the kids in your neighborhood that play in the street and can rub, scratch, dent and sit on your car because kids are kids. It can also protect your vehicle from all those little things like when you take the trash out and it's hard to get by your car in the garage, or when you are cutting the lawn and the handle scratches the car as you go by, not to mention the dings, scratches and marks that you have no answer for that just show up the next time you wash the car. All these things can happen to your car or any other vehicle you have.

The next thing that your car cover can do is to protect it's value by stopping the sun from causing the dash to crack, dry out, fade and just fall apart. Also, the seats will keep their soft and vibrant look, as well as keep all the plastic in your car like new. There are many more things a cover can help you with like keeping your interior cooler in the summer or keeping all your accessories and belongings safe from prying eyes like the new stereo, CD's and more. All this will help to keep your vehicles value up when you sell or trade. Covers for your vehicles can be used with a cable lock that will not only help keep your cover on in the wind but also stop your cover from being stolen.

All in all in my opinion every vehicle needs a cover to keep its value and to protect it from the many hazards the world will throw at it. Yes each type of vehicle has different types of hazards to deal with but I still think a cover will be it's best defense to help hold it's value. In today's world economy all of us can't afford to be loose with our money. So for the price of a cover you will get back many times it's value.

By Michel Jhon

If you keenly analyze the car sales figures, you will find that most of the cars sold are the used ones. It proves that selling a used car is not a tough job at all. However, that's not the truth. Selling a used car is a lot tougher than selling a new one. Therefore, it is important to put yourself in the buyers' shoes, if you want to sell your car on the price you want. Following are some important tips that can help you in making used car sales:

Know the USPs of your car

It is mandatory for you to know your car really well. Try to find its USPs which you can advertise in front of the buyer. Some of the USPs could be:

o Untouched engine
o Excellent mileage
o Superior condition of tyres
o Scratch free body
o Appearance of interiors
o Proper functioning of accessories like radio, air conditioner, power windows etc

The whole process of making car sales depends upon the USPs of your cars. The more points you can add, the better will it be.

Get the condition of your car perfect

In normal circumstances, the most common reason of a used car not being sold is its condition. A client, whether he is the first time buyer or a pro, will always check the cars condition closely. Hence, it is important to get your car in a perfect condition before you present it in front of the buyer. Be it levels of the oil, brakes, condition of the tyres or working of accessories, get everything right.

Advertise in the right way

Make sure that you advertise for your car in the right way. Advertising only in classified newspapers won't do. Try and post advertisement on various automobile sites available. You can also participate in the numerous car sales auctions that keep taking place at regular time intervals.

Keep the selling price a bit higher

Fix a price for your car slightly higher than what you want. Don't worry! This will not ruin your deal, rather, it give you enough room for negotiations on the buyers' part. Even if the buyer is able to negotiate a lot, you still might get the price you want. However, fixing a higher price can only do well, if your car has enough Unique Selling Points (USPs).

Be firm yet polite

IT is your car and you should get the price you want. Therefore, make sure that you don't get carried away in negotiations and agree upon a price, which is less than what you had planned. Put across your view in a polite manner and try to stick with it. By following the above mentioned tips, you can definitely make used car sales at your price.

Interior Designing Without the Experts

By Ian MckIntosh

You live the good life, drive fast cars, eat and swanky restaurants and love a lavish lifestyle. But why compromise when it comes to decorating the home you live in. Every home needs some kind of maintenance and decorating every now and then. Fail to do these and soon you will be bored of living in the same house for years. Moreover you and your house will soon become an object of ridicule amongst friends and neighbors. Just hire a professional interior decorator and sit back while he gives a complete makeover to the house. Once the house is complete you can show it off to all your friends and families.

Interior decorators are good but they ask for a lot of money. Moreover your contribution to the project becomes very limited once you hire these professionals to work out new designs for the interiors. This is one of the main reasons why a lot of home owners like you are trying to redesign their houses without taking any assistance from professionals. If these people could do it there is no reason why you should be left behind. Just go out there, make a plan and get started with the interior designing in your own house.

At first you might find it a little difficult to find ways and ideas of designing your interiors. This is totally understandable considering the fact that you have never stepped into the shoes of a designer before, neither have you had any formal training. But some creative thinking and observation can help you a lot in coming up with the perfect plan. You can also visit the houses of your friends and neighbors if you need some ideas. But the best ideas can be found on the fashion and home improvement magazines that come out almost every week. Go through these and you will have all the latest designs and guides that can help you turn your home into a specimen. You may even log on to the net while looking for ideas. Certain websites offer valuable insights and ideas of interior decoration for beginners. They can also acquaint you with furnishing products creating a rage in the current day market.

Sensible shopping is one of the most important things when it comes to interior decoration. Whatever you buy; be it carpets, curtains window blinds you have to make sure that they are durable and go with the color and entire look of the house. Even a small mistake like installing door handles that do not match with the color of the door can spoil the interiors of that room. You have to be more careful of such mistakes when you buy from online stores as most of them do not offer shipment return policies.

Most interior designing experts would suggest you to go for branded products as they have a long shelf life. This is particularly important when you buy accessories, fittings for bathrooms and kitchens as one should not meddle too much with the interiors of these rooms.

Anti-Theft - Car Covers

Posted: Monday, January 13, 2014

By Ryan Draving

Car covers protect your car in more ways than you might think. The obvious way is by protecting your cars paint job from dust and the elements. A car cover can also protect your car from being stolen. Even though an automobile cover is a thin piece of fabric it can provide powerful protection for your car or the contents in your car being stolen.

A person stealing a vehicle wants to quietly and quickly enter a car, start it and get on the road. They have to do this in a matter of seconds so as not to be discovered. A car that is covered will take more time to get into and will be more noticeable. For instance a thief can't just pull off a cover and throw it on the ground that would look suspicious. A cover takes a few minutes to take off of a car and that one reason why a car cover is a good theft deterrent.

Not only does a custom auto cover protect the exterior of your car it also protects the interior and its contents as well. A thief will not be able to see what type of stereo equipment or anything else you of that is valuable inside your car with a cover on it. This keeps a thief from seeing something tempting to steal in your car.

An auto cover is a good deterrent for a thief and you can be make it even harder for someone to steal your car by adding a car cover lock and cable accessory to your auto cover. This will secure your car cover to your vehicle. You can write your name on the car cover and usually instructions are included to give you details about the correct way to mark your car cover.

Getting a car cover lock and cable along with your custom fitted automobile cover will give you more protection to deter a car thief. The cable is vinyl covered and is designed so it will not harm your paint or any other part of your car. The car cover comes with heavily reinforced grommets and tie down loops. The grommets are located about two inches from the bottom of the car cover and are located about midway lengthwise on the cover. To install the lock and cable you run the cable through one of the grommets and under your car and then through the other grommet. You then close the lock and your car cover is secure.

Your car is a major investment and by using an outdoor automobile cover you can protect your car from dirt, rain, birds and thieves. Your car will be protected no matter whether you park in a busy parking lot or on a quiet street. You get double protection if you use a cable and lock system with your cover. With a lock and cable in place your car is protected from high winds and also from theft. It is a perfect way to keep your car looking new and to keep prying eyes away from the inside of your vehicle.

Choosing the Car Model That's Right For You

Posted: Friday, January 10, 2014

By Ted Brumby

As well as model choices, the extra features of each vehicle type should also be considered in your selection. What kind of engine do you need? Petrol, diesel, or hybrid power? Do you need economy or hauling power? What type of transmission - automatic, manual or auto-manual? How about sound systems, air-conditioning, and optional upholstery? The basic vehicle package often won't include many optional extras that you want, so you may have to outlay more money to ensure you get the features you want.

Features aside, what car is going to be right for you? Here's a brief run-down on some popular car models and their main features:

Economy or Small Car - This model is typically a small two-door hatchback or small car. These types of vehicle offer great basic transportation and generally deliver good fuel mileage. They are great "city cars" and are ideal for short trips with up to four passengers.

Economy Crossover - These vehicle models have a more functional body type - think "station wagon". They generally have a good fuel mileage, and can carry four or five passengers as well as stow some gear. Economy Crossover's are more costly that the economy small car, but are a lot more functional.

Compact SUV - These cars are designed for more rugged use. The compact SUV often has four-wheel-drive and can handle less than favorable road conditions, but are not designed for heavy off-road use. There are some trade-offs in fuel economy and higher base prices when compared to crossovers or small cars.

Mid-sized Coupe or Sedan - The Coupe has bigger dimensions, more interior space, more comfort for passengers and better for longer trips. This model can be economical with appropriate engine and transmission choices. The base models will often have more accessories and luxury features but the cost is generally higher than more compact car models.

Mid-sized SUV - This is like the compact SUV, but with larger dimensions and is more appropriate for off-road usage, towing and other heavy-duty activities. The mid-sized SUV can comfortably carry four of five passengers and their gear on long distance trips. The big downside of the mid-sized SUV is the fuel consumption - particularly as we see fuel prices and global warming concerns on the rise.

People Movers - these van-types of vehicles have large interior spaces and generally seat five to eight passengers, plus storage space. The People Mover is suitable for longer trips or transporting the kids' sports teams and all their equipment. Again they are not as economical as the small car, but they are far more appropriate for large families or frequent transportation of groups.

Sports Cars - Small, high-performance vehicles that usually only carry two people comfortably, but can sometimes carry up to four. Sports cars have minimal storage space and are a fun drive for the auto enthusiast, but are not that practical for a family.

Large Coupes, Sedans and SUVs - These large car models are like the mid-sized, but with larger dimensions and are generally even less fuel efficient.

What to Look For in Used Car Dealers Before Acquiring a Car

Posted: Tuesday, January 7, 2014

By Sharon Geeze

The major source of acquiring used cars across the USA is through used car dealers. They offer a vast variety of cars, numerous financial deals and at times even chip in maintenance services free of cost. But what needs to be noted is that it is preferred for customers to buy used cars from registered car dealers instead of attaining them from private dealers.

Not everyone can be trusted, hence here are some factors which you can consider to figure out if your chosen used car dealer is trustable or not:

Status

The reputation or status of a used car dealer is a very fundamental factor, which must be taken into consideration before making a deal. It is rather easy to make a business deal with a just, sincere and helpful car dealer as long as he is reputable and holds a good status in the market. To locate reputable use car dealers, you can simply look up the local Better Business Bureau for reliability reports of car dealers. What you can also do is talk to your family and friends who acquired their cars from used car dealers and are satisfied with what they received.

Assistance

Locating a well-reputed used car dealer is not the only factor that matters. You also need to check the services offered by your chosen car dealer. The services might include maintenance and service appointments, loans to help you acquire your car if you are having financial issues, discounts which might vary on the basis of location and bargaining, extended car warranties etc.

Cost of the Vehicle

Do not assume that the price you are going to pay is for the entire car This is not true when it comes to dealing with car dealers. A vast number of dealerships usually comprise of "add-ons" that might include tinting of windows, accessories for the car CD changers, products for protecting the paint of your car undercarriage coatings, accessories for your car's interior etc. At times car dealers usually install the add-ons beforehand to force the customer into buying the car If you truly require these supplementary add-ons, then they just might come as a blessing for you. But if you do not need them, check the car beforehand so you would not have to pay extra for things you do not even need.

These factors are a must to consider in every used car dealer, no matter how respectful or well-reputed he is. Finding a sincere and honest person to help you buy a used car might be the perfect investment!

Interior Products for Vehicles

Posted: Saturday, January 4, 2014

By Brenda Williams

When I bought my first vehicle, I was so excited. I remember going to the store and wanting to buy all sorts of goodies for my car such as special car wash soap, new plastic mats to protect the mats that were already in the vehicle. I even looked at seat covers (because at the time, I had a dog). There seemed to be no end in sight when it came to accessories for my car.

When you buy a car, you usually don't give too much thought to the types of car care products that you'll need once you drive off the lot. There are many different types of products that you can purchase to clean your vehicle. However, the type of products you buy will depend on the kind of vehicle that you have as well as the types of features your vehicle is equipped with. For instance, if you own a car that has leather interior, you're obviously not going to use the same type of upholstery cleaner as you would a car that has cloth seating.

What Comes Standard With My Car?

When purchasing a brand new vehicle, most people can go online and actually put together their hypothetical, "dream vehicle" with a few clicks of the mouse. When you go to the dealership, and talk to the car salesman, you can be very upfront and ask the salesperson what types of features come standard with the vehicle you are preparing to purchase. Some vehicles will actually come equipped with more features than others, so choose carefully.

Features That Will Cost You

Some examples of features that will cost you extra out of pocket include but are not limited to:
- Bug deflectors/guards
- Mud flaps
- Cargo organizers
- Custom carpeted mats
- Leather seats
- Heated seats
- Automatic windows (in some cars)

Know Before You Go

Buying a car, whether it's used or new, is a huge decision that should never be made by yourself. This is why it's important to bring someone to the dealership (or have them with you if you're purchasing your vehicle online) who has gone through the process of purchasing a car and is somewhat knowledgeable. There is nothing worse than going to a dealership or buying a car only to find out that you were swindled. Before you purchase the vehicle, make a list of all the questions you want to ask. Have a friend look over this list to see if you've missed anything. Additionally, make sure that you know what kinds of features are important to you when you purchase the vehicle. For example, most vehicles come with automatic windows- though not every vehicle lists this as a standard feature. You would, no doubt, be very disappointed if you purchased a car during the summer and went to open the windows, only to realize that you had to roll them down by hand. Know what questions to ask and make sure the answers are in writing just in case you have any dispute in the future.
